Get ready for heart-pounding excitement at the Puyallup Rodeo, one of the most prestigious stops on the PRCA Cinch Playoff Series. This September, the top 24 rodeo athletes from across the country will compete in eight thrilling events, each packed with grit, speed and split-second decisions.
They’re not just riding for glory — they’re battling for a coveted spot at the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, one of the biggest honors in the sport. Only 12 advance. The stakes are high, the talent is elite and every second counts.
The Top 24 PRCA contestants are divided into two Playoff groups.
The Top 2 from each group move on to the Semifinals.
The Top 4 in the Semis compete in a winner-take-all Final Round on Sunday.
Top 4 from Puyallup + Top 8 in standings = 12 total advance to the Governor’s Cup.
It’s fast. It’s intense. It’s the road to rodeo greatness.
Explosive and unpredictable, bull riding is the ultimate battle of balance and strength. Riders must hang on for eight grueling seconds as 2,000-pound bulls twist, leap and buck. Touching the bull or losing grip ends the ride — fast.
Known as the most physically demanding event in rodeo, bareback riders hold onto a suitcase-style rigging and ride wild bucking horses with no saddle. High scores come from timing, technique and control.
Also called “bulldogging,” this high-speed event challenges riders to jump from their horse, catch a 500+ lb steer by the horns, and wrestle it to the ground — all in just a few seconds.
Pro Rodeo’s classic event. Riders use finesse and rhythm to stay atop a bucking horse with a specialized saddle and rein. Judges score on spurring technique, balance and style over eight seconds.
Speed and precision meet horsemanship as cowboys rope a calf, dismount and tie three legs — all while the horse keeps perfect rope tension. Fast, focused and fiercely competitive.
The only true team event in rodeo. One rider ropes the steer’s horns (header), the other ropes its hind legs (heeler). It’s all about synchronization, timing and technique.
A women’s-only event and fan favorite. Riders race in a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels at breakneck speed. Knock a barrel? Add 5 seconds. In this race, every split-second matters.
One of rodeo’s fastest events. Competitors rope a calf, and when the rope pulls taut, the timer stops. Some runs are over in just 2 seconds. Break a barrier or miss, and it’s a 10-second penalty or “no time.”
From Thursday, Sept. 4 to Sunday, Sept. 7, the best of the best go head-to-head in Puyallup’s legendary arena.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to the rodeo scene, this is the event of the season.
