About the Artist

Boy George

When Boy George first appeared on Top of the Pops with Culture Club in 1982, he instantly had people talking. The New Romantic pop sensations went on to achieve seven UK Top 10 singles, nine Top 10 singles in the USA, and nine Top 20 singles in Australia—including “Karma Chameleon” and “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.” The band has sold over 100 million singles and 50 million albums worldwide.

In 1984, Culture Club won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, as well as Best British Group and Best British Single at the BRIT Awards. The band became the first group since The Beatles to have three Top 10 hits in America from a debut album, and the first group in music history to have an album certified diamond in Canada.

After Culture Club’s split in 1986, Boy George released his debut solo single “Everything I Own,” which reached No. 1 in the UK and the Top 10 in eight additional countries. Across a solo career spanning more than three decades, he has released nine studio albums, along with the 1993 compilation At Worst… The Best of Boy George and Culture Club.

Beyond music, Boy George wrote lyrics and co-wrote the music for Taboo, a stage musical based on the New Romantic scene of the early 1980s, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical Score.

Turning to DJing in 2007, he has performed around the world, including in Australia, Dubai, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, France, Brazil, Belgium, and Russia.

Boy George is also a bestselling author, having released three memoirs: Take It Like a Man (1995), Straight (2005), and Karma (2023). All three became UK bestsellers, with Karma remaining on The Sunday Times bestseller list for six weeks.

In 2016, Boy George became a coach on The Voice UK, where his act Cody Frost reached the final. He later joined The Voice Australia in 2017, with contestant Hoseah Partsch finishing as runner-up. That same year, he appeared on The Celebrity Apprentice in the United States, finishing in second place.

Boy George reunited with Culture Club in 2016 for a 40-city tour, performing to sold-out crowds across Australia, Japan, and the United States, culminating at Wembley Arena in London. The band has continued to tour globally, including a successful 2024 arena tour performing their first two albums in full.

He also reached No. 1 on the Official Vinyl Singles Chart with Kim Wilde for their collaboration “Shine On.” Boy George & Culture Club have continued to perform special live events, including appearances in the Heritage Live Concert Series.

In addition to his music career, Boy George is an accomplished visual artist, with exhibitions held in Monaco, Belgium, Denmark, and London.

Culture Club

Since their inception in 1981, Culture Club has sold more than 150 million records worldwide and is recognized as a Grammy Award-winning UK institution. Their stream of classic hits includes “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me,” “Karma Chameleon,” “Church of the Poison Mind,” “Victims,” “It’s a Miracle,” and “The War Song.”

The group is fronted by singer-songwriter Boy George, one of music’s most iconic artists, alongside Roy Hay on guitar and keyboards and Mikey Craig on bass. As the first multi-racial band with an openly gay frontman, Culture Club broke barriers and established themselves as icons of British musical history and popular culture.

Boy George & Culture Club have continued to perform globally, including a series of exclusive UK outdoor shows as part of the Heritage Live Concert Series, featuring a special performance at Kenwood House on Hampstead Heath in July 2022.

In 2024, Culture Club embarked on a highly successful arena tour, presenting a large-scale stage production of their first two albums, Kissing to Be Clever and Colour by Numbers, performing both albums in full.
