Puyallup Fair Tantilizes Tastebuds with Deep Fried Ice Cream, Chocolate Covered Bacon

A wide range of new menu options offers variety to compliment traditional favorites

Puyallup, WA – Sept. 10, 2009 – For many, visiting the Puyallup Fair, Sept. 11-27, 2009 means throwing caution to the wind and trying foods that may not be on the everyday diet. The Puyallup Fair offers new menu options, ranging from Deep Fried Ice Cream to Chocolate Covered Bacon, Alligator on a Stick to Red Neck Sushi, and more!

A new food booth, Totally Fried, is being operated by Premier Services, a longstanding Puyallup Fair food vendor. This booth, located outside of the northwest corner of Americraft ShowPlex, specializes in new and unique menu items. In fact, they will be creating new menu items during the Fair. You never know, you may be the first to try a new recipe that Julia Child had wished she had developed, like Deep Fried Peanut Butter Cookie Dough (or chocolate – or combined!). Totally Fried will include on the menu:

Alligator on a Stick:  This has been the most popular menu item at other venues. Alligator meat is skewered, cooked, and served with an offering of sauces.

Krispy Kreme Chicken Sandwich:  An original glazed Krispy Kreme is sliced, and a fried chicken patty is placed between the donut “bun,” accented with raspberry preserves, and served with honey on the side. A perfect menu item to share with a friend!

Deep Fried Frog Legs:  Frog legs are dipped in seasoned batter, and fried. Simply eat like a chicken nugget.

Chocolate Covered Bacon:  High quality, thick cut bacon is cut and fried, then dipped in semi-sweet chocolate. It is carefully hardened (too much humidity will make it sweat, so care is taken). It is served in a bag.

Deep Fried Nitro Ice Cream:  Vanilla Nitro ice cream is made into a ball, then rolled rolled in a mixture of corn flakes and brown sugar. It is quickly deep fried, then served on a cinnamon/sugar tortilla, and finished off with whipped cream. Heaven!

Zucchini Weenie:  A fresh, locally grown zuke is hollowed just enough for a hot dog to slip in. It is battered and deep fried, and served with ranch dressing. Think about it: it includes the vegetable, protein and bread food groups!

Red Neck Sushi:  This menu item is served in traditional roll style. Smoked port and green onion are wrapped in rice and seaweed, then deep fried. It is served with chipotle mayonnaise. Sushi chefs could love this new version of a century-old favorite!

Deep Fried Pickles:  Dill pickle spears are dipped in tempura batter and deep fried, served with ranch or spicy dipping sauce.

Deep Fried Twinkies:  These popular favorites will be returning to the Puyallup Fair. Yes, Twinkies are deep fried and served.

Premier Services will have another booth near the Green Gate, and will serve:
Australian Battered Potatoes:  Washington spuds are cut vertically, battered and fried twice, and served with hot cheese sauce, ranch, sweet chili sauce, or sour cream.

In addition to these new menu items, the Puyallup Fair will also offer traditional favorites, ranging from warm scones dripping with honey butter and raspberry jam, onion burgers, Krusty Pups, carmel apples, cotton candy, ice cream on a stick dipped in chocolate and nuts, and much more.

For guests truly interested in healthy options, visit any of the five information booths and pick up a Healthy Fare menu, listing low fat, low cholesterol, vegetarian and sugar-free menu options.

The Puyallup Fair first started in 1900. This Pacific Northwest tradition is one of the top ten fairs in the world in attendance, and features big name entertainment, the PRCA Rodeo, rides, exhibits, food, flowers, and animals.
