The Puyallup Fair Dedicates Two Days to Honor Seniors

Puyallup, WA – August 26, 2009 – Seniors can live it up during both Tuesdays of the 17-day Puyallup Fair run, Sept. 11-27. This year, Senior Tuesdays fall on Sept. 15 and Sept. 22 and are jam-packed with senior-specific activities and entertainment.

Starting at 10 a.m., seniors can begin their day with free morning coffee from Dillanos Coffee Roasters and pastries from Franz Family Bakeries. Upon entry, seniors will receive a free seniors-only coupon sheet with valuable savings from Fair vendors.

Entertainment for seniors will be offered at Showplace Stage, with performances by bluegrass musicians Billy & The Hillbillies, and master yodeler Kerry Christensen on Sept. 15.

On Sept. 22 only, State Attorney General Rob McKenna will speak on senior scams and identity theft at 10 a.m. at Showplace Stage. The classic and bluegrass band, The Konzelman Family; country music musicians, Coal Train Express; and yodeler Kerry Christensen will follow with performances at 1, 3, and 5 p.m.

Both days will feature a Red Hat Society parade beginning at 1 p.m. inside the Fair gates.

Other traditional senior favorites include visits to Hobby Hall, which includes collections, displays, and demonstrations, a special exhibit featuring nationally renowned artist Charley Harper in the Pavilion, and of course, Puyallup Fair scones dripping with butter and jam. Seniors will also receive free rides on the antique Merry-Go-Round throughout the day.

Seniors will be able to navigate the grounds easily with the help of the People Mover, which provides free transportation within the grounds.

Discount senior admission tickets for the Puyallup Fair are available at participating Columbia Bank and Safeway locations for $6.50 through Sept. 27. Discounted group sales for 25 seniors or more and van parking are available by calling (253) 841-5053.

 The Puyallup Fair first started in 1900. This Pacific Northwest tradition is one of the top ten fairs in the world in attendance, and features big name entertainment, the PRCA Rodeo, rides, exhibits, food, flowers, and animals.
