MEDIA ALERT #2: Puyallup Fair Will Process First 600 People for Jobs on Thursday
Overwhelming response to fill jobs for Puyallup Fair, Sept. 11-27
Puyallup, WA – August 12, 2009, 4:45 p.m. – Due to the overwhelming response to fill 3,000 job openings at the Puyallup Fair today, not all those interested in jobs were able to be processed today. In total, 4,000 people came seeking jobs, but the WorkSource Employment Office could only meet with 1,000 people, in an effort to match them to jobs. Tomorrow morning, numbers will be distributed to the first 600 in line, and all others will be asked to come back on Friday or Monday.
In the past 25 years, the WorkSource Employment Office has not seen more than 500 potential employees on the first day of hiring, and some years when the economy was more positive, much less than that.
The employment office is open Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; and 1 – 4 p.m. The WorkSource Employment Office on the north side of the facility (9th Ave. SW between 4th St. SW and 5th St. SW). It will remain open through the last day of the Fair, Sept. 27.
Seasonal jobs are available in a variety of departments such as food service, retail sales, game and booth operators, barn workers and much more. Wages begin at $8.55 per hour, with some paying more based on duties and skills required.
To qualify, prospective employees must be at least 16 years old and be able to provide picture ID as well as proof of legal right to work, such as a social security card or alien registration card. The Fair will not accept applicants by phone or e-mail.
The Puyallup Fair is a tradition in the Pacific Northwest, and one of the top ten fairs in the world in attendance. For further information about the Sept. 11-27, 2009 Puyallup Fair, visit www.thefair.com or call the 24-hour hotline at (253) 841-5045.
