“American Idol’s” Allison Iraheta now slated to open for Lambert

Though she is only a teenager, Allison Iraheta is living a dream, having made it in the top four contestants on “American Idol.” Add to that a debut album, Just Like You, which was released Dec. 1, 2009, and her first single, “Friday I’ll Be Over U.” The album leans toward contemporary pop / rock.
The talented singer is also a songwriter and guitarist. She co-wrote “You Don’t Know Me” along with Mitch Allan, David Bassett, and David Hodges (formerly of Evanescence).
To Allison, television was her window into the world of music, with her parents watching MTV and Spanish music stations. Her dad leaned towards classic rock, including Led Zeppelin and the Beatles, while her mom listened to Spanish music, while also being an ABBA fan. Sprinkled in there was R&B music from albums Allison would ask her sister to buy.
Her singing career started at age six in Glendale, California at the opening of a local Latin supermarket. Voice lessons from private coaches fine tuned her talent. When she was 15, she tried out for Quinceañera, a reality competition series that aired on Telemundo. She sang at the audition and was immediately asked if she could fly to Mexico the next day to start the series, which taped there for the next four months. Allison became the winner of the show.
When she turned 16 years old, her family drove her to the “American Idol” audition in San Francisco. Allison, complete with her bright magenta hair, will long be remembered for her version of Janis Joplin’s “Cry Baby” – and for making it to the top four contestants.
