Open Jobs Still to Be Filled at Puyallup Fair
Last Week’s Big Lines Scared Away Many Qualified Candidates
Puyallup, WA – August 17, 2009 – With the tremendous response from job seekers last week, many thought that all of the Puyallup Fair jobs would had been filled by today. That is not the case. The lines have decreased dramatically, and there are still approximately 500 jobs available.
Last Wednesday when the WorkSource Employment Office opened, 4,000 arrived wanting to fill 3,000 jobs. Meeting with applicants individually and matching them to jobs takes time, and they could only process 1,050 the first day. The last two days of the week, they met with 600 applicants a day. That still leaves approximately 500 jobs to fill.
The employment office is open Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; and 1 – 4 p.m. The WorkSource Employment Office on the north side of the facility (9th Ave. SW between 4th St. SW and 5th St. SW). It will remain open through the last day of the Fair, Sept. 27.
Seasonal jobs are available in a variety of departments such as food service, retail sales, game and booth operators, barn workers and much more. Wages begin at $8.55 per hour, with some paying more based on duties and skills required.
To qualify, prospective employees must be at least 16 years old and be able to provide picture ID as well as proof of legal right to work, such as a social security card or alien registration card.
