PRCA’s National Rodeo Playoffs at Puyallup Rodeo, Sept. 11-13
Top athletes compete for $540,000+ purse
Puyallup, WA – August 26, 2009 – This year’s Justin Boots Playoffs of the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour will have Puyallup Rodeo fans cheering for their favorite nationally recognized rodeo athletes as they compete for a piece of the $540,000 purse, the largest in the Pacific Northwest. The Puyallup Rodeo is Sept. 11-13, the first three days of the Puyallup Fair.
The rodeo will have everyone sitting on the edge of their seats as participants compete in seven traditional rodeo events, including: bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping and tie-down roping.
The top 24 contestants/teams in each event in the 2009 Wrangler Million Dollar Tour Standings will qualify for the Puyallup Rodeo. From there, Puyallup’s top 12 contestants/teams in each event in the 2009 Wrangler Million Dollar Tour Standings, which include any earnings from the Puyallup Playoff, will qualify for Omaha Sept. 24-26, one step from the finals. The total prize money for the regular season and playoffs is estimated to surpass $6 million.
The opening day begins with a rodeo at 1 p.m., plus a 6:30 p.m. rodeo, followed by a concert by country music superstar, Jason Aldean. He was inspired by a country music award show on TV and started his music career at the young age of 14. Aldean sold two million copies of his first two albums, and topped the charts with hits “She’s Country,” “Hicktown,” and “Why.” Tickets prices range from $30-$50.
The Saturday, Sept. 12 rodeo performances are at 1 and 6:30 p.m. This year, something brand spanking new will follow the Saturday 6:30 p.m. rodeo. Come party in the dirt with a Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed and Dancin’ in the Dirt event for a separate ticket of $20. Shelly and the Curves will provide great rock and roll music, while appetizers, a beverage, a ride on the mechanical bull, and cowboy meet and greets complete the evening.
The bonus in attending Sunday’s 1 p.m. Finals is that fans will enjoy a complete rodeo competition, plus the finals. That day, cowboys and cowgirls are switching their boots, chaps, and cowboy hats to go pink in support of breast cancer awareness in the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign. Fans are encouraged to get involved by wearing pink, donating to the cause, or by purchasing pink rodeo products.
Don’t miss this much anticipated event. Bring the family and purchase the Family 4-pack deal for $60 to either Saturday performance. The pack includes two adults and two kids (age 3-18), and must be purchased by Sept. 10 at www.thefair.com.
