Puyallup School District Student
Poster Project
The Spring Fair has worked with the Puyallup School District hosting a poster project since 2008. The project consists of competition in two divisions, second grade, and junior high art students. The theme of the project focused on an artistic look at the Spring Fair.
Judges had a very difficult challenge in narrowing it down to the winning artwork in each division. They awarded the top three students in each division ribbons, and their schools received generous gift cards for art supplies. Each participating school also received a $100 gift card for art supplies.
In addition to the top three winning art pieces in each division, honorable mention art will be on display throughout the Spring Fair, April 18-21 in the Pavilion, first floor. Copies of the top three winning artwork in each division are also featured in a large display in April 2013 at the Puyallup Library next to Pioneer Park.
Junior high art teachers used this project to teach their students about posters, and the elements necessary to create an easy-to-read and appealing poster. Second grade teachers introduced the project with themed lessons in art and social studies. The lessons culminate with a hands-on art project in which the students demonstrated what they learned by interviewing a family member or friend about their memories of the Fair. They then created brightly-colored posters reflecting these memories of the Spring Fair. Art mediums in both divisions ranged from crayons and colored pencils to oils, watercolors and poster paints.
