Record-Breaking Giant Pumpkin Tips the Scales at the 2012 Puyallup Fair

Puyallup, WA – Sept. 21, 2012 –The pumpkins were bigger than ever at the 2012 Puyallup Fair’s annual Super Pumpkin weigh-in. Both of this year’s first and second place winners broke the Fair’s current giant pumpkin record. Robin Halbert of Enumclaw took home first place honors with an impressive pumpkin weighing in at 1,246 pounds. The grand champion prize is a dollar per pound, which granted Halbert $1,246.
 
Jay Groepper of Spokane took second place with his giant pumpkin weighing in at 1,148 pounds. Groepper took home $500 for his second place win. Cindy Tobeck of Olympia received third place honors, winning $400 for her 1,135 pound pumpkin.
 
In the junior division, Abby and Anne Uhlmeyer of Olympia took home the title of junior champions with their pumpkin weighing in at an enormous 902.5 pounds. With a prize of $1 per pound, the girls took home $902.5. Second place in the junior division went to Jimmy Venters of Redmond who won $300 with his pumpkin weighing 156 pounds. Alliana Halbert of Enumclaw took home third place honors with a 146.5 pound pumpkin and won $200.
 
The top three pumpkins in each division will be on display in the Agriculture Department in the Americraft ShowPlex for the duration of the Puyallup Fair, through Sept. 23.
